ART Therapy
What is Art Therapy?
According to the American Art Therapy Association (AATA), art therapy is a mental health profession that uses the creative process of making art to improve a person’s physical, mental, and emotional well-being. It provides a safe space to explore thoughts, feelings, and experiences when words alone may not be enough.
As a counselor and art therapist, I use art therapy to support children, adolescents, and adults in ways that are tailored to their age and needs:
Children: Art helps young clients express feelings, manage anxiety, and navigate challenges through play and creativity.
Adolescents: Teens can explore identity, cope with stress, and build self-confidence using creative, non-verbal tools.
Adults: Art therapy provides a reflective space to process emotions, reduce stress, and develop coping strategies for life’s pressures.
Art therapy is not about artistic skill—it’s about using creativity as a bridge to self-understanding, emotional growth, and healing. When words feel limited, art offers a safe path to express emotions and explore inner experiences.
